In addition to our organisational work, we have partners and associates who offer personal Gestalt therapy to individuals and couples, operating in NSW, Victoria and NZ.
Gestalt therapy is a field of psychotherapy with key differences from other forms of therapy. A key part of Gestalt therapy is working to develop the client’s awareness of what’s happening around them, within them and what options and choices are available to deal with what’s happening (rather than the therapist taking a more analytical approach). This is supported by the therapist sharing what he or she is experiencing in contact with the client and in paying attention to what’s happening in the space between the client and the therapist.
THE VALUE OF GESTALT THERAPY
There are times in everyone’s life when there’s value in getting support from a variety of sources, especially when you’re feeling depressed or anxious about something or are struggling to deal with something that’s happened or is happening. This could relate to a significant relationship, work, loss of a loved one, or life in general.
Often family and friends can provide the support, advice or listening post you need. Then there are other times when talking, confidentially, with a personal therapist can be useful, especially if the issues you’re dealing with involve those closest to you.
Participating in therapy can help you learn more about yourself and others, and develop the skills and understanding that help you handle your problems and feelings, as well as nurture your potential to live a healthy and satisfying life.
While there are no guarantees, coming to therapy should help you feel better and produce beneficial results. A good indication that therapy is working well will be when you notice that you feel less worried, afraid, angry, depressed or anxious; you feel more able to deal with or resolve problems; relationships are improving; and you feel better about yourself, your situation and your choices and decisions.
