THE SPACE BETWEEN PEOPLE AND PERFORMANCE

A GESTALT APPROACH TO BUSINESS LEADERSHIP AND CONSULTING

Building on the series of Gestalt in Organisations workshops run in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Christchurch since 2000, the space between Australia is planning to run a number of workshops in the region in the coming year.

“The Space Between People and Performance Workshop”

Applying Gestalt in Organisations

A 3 day workshop exploring the application of Gestalt approaches and models to organisational work, for business leaders and consultants.

Workshop participants will emerge with an expanded, more creative range of practices for influencing change and working with people in organisations, and helping organisations to be more successful through higher performing individuals and teams.

Drawing on its rich background as a field of therapy, Gestalt is a uniquely effective holistic leadership and consulting approach. This approach has a number of key benefits outlined below.

Gestalt in Organisations helps people sharpen their awareness of what’s going on right now; with themselves, with others, within teams and within organisations. Through this increased awareness people are able to make more informed decisions and take more effective action. We also explore the use of Field theory to help people understand what’s happening within and around organisations.

The approach develops skills in making real contact with others and building lasting relationships through “authentic dialogue”. Through dialogue people can take responsibility for their actions and responses, and better express what they really think and feel, and, perhaps more importantly, really listen to what is being said by others. These approaches also support more effective coaching, performance management and conflict management.

Gestalt also provides a way for people to confidently react and respond to unfolding events through learning the art of improvisation and creative experiment, so that they are better able to thrive during change. In addition, the “paradoxical theory of change” is a unique approach for helping people lead change and support others through change.

Application of the Gestalt Cycle of Experience supports more effective individual and organisational learning. This Cycle also has a number of other important applications, e.g. substantially increasing the success rate of projects and improving meeting effectiveness.

To ensure a high degree of interaction, the workshop has a maximum of 12 participants.

Workshop fee: Personal rate - $1,430, Corporate rate - $1,980 (including GST, plus any accommodation costs). An early bird personal rate of $1,100 and a corporate rate of $1,705 may be obtained by paying a non-refundable deposit of $110 two months before the workshop. (Those with limited budgets are invited to talk with us about rates & payment options.)

“Inspirational leadership”

A three day residential intensive experiential learning event for business leaders who want to inspire their people.

Inspirational leadership is experienced by people who feel inspired. This feeling of being ’inspired’ may be as a result of their own actions and the outcomes they achieve, or by the actions of others.

People who inspire others, as well as feeling inspired, have a number of attributes that others experience as inspirational. These include, self-belief, confidence, attentiveness to others, presence, clarity and a willingness to make choices. All of these attributes flow from the degree to which the ‘inspirational’ person is at ease with themselves. We believe this stems from the following seven key elements:

§         Self-awareness

§         Authenticity

§         Attentiveness

§         Presence

§         Inclusion

§         Choosing

§         Improvisation

We will explore each of these elements in this workshop

This workshop will be led by two facilitators: Dr Trevor Bentley, Howard Boorman and/or Peter Campbell.

For public workshops the fee per participant, including GST and all accommodation and food, is $4,400. The fee for single client in house versions is $26,400 plus venue and accommodation costs.

Numbers for both the public workshops and in house versions are limited to twelve to enable good contact and attention to individual needs.

“Emergent leadership - A Gestalt approach to discover the hidden power of inspiration”

A three day residential intensive experiential learning event for business leaders who want to discover their own unique leadership style through spontaneity and improvisation.

Each of the three days will focus on a particular theme. During the exploration of each theme participants will be able to experiment with their own style of leadership.

Day One         - Trusting my spontaneity

Day Two         - The art and power of improvisation

Day Three      - Emergence of leadership

At the end of the three days we expect that each participant will leave equipped to lead in their own inspirational way.

The next step will be the integration of this learning through experiment in the real world in which each person lives and works. Subsequent to the event guidance and coaching support will be available for participants by negotiation.

A 2-day workshop available to people who have attended one of our other workshops and to Gestalt therapists with organisational experience.

In this workshop, we explore how a holistic approach can help integrate all aspects of an organisation e.g. people and profit, working at the hard edge and with softness, caring for individuals and thinking systemically.

The standalone fee for this 2 day workshop is $1,540 at the corporate rate and $880 at the personal rate (including GST, plus any accommodation costs).

“Gestalt in Organisations Advanced Development Group Program”

A series of workshop modules over 12 months covering key challenges facing organisational leaders and the consultants who support them. The second year of this program was completed in 2006, with the third year commencing in March 2007.

Attendance at this program is by invitation and the program is generally only available to people who have worked with us before.

Program Outline

The aim of this program is to bring together a group of people to explore, through regular contact, the application of a Gestalt approach to business and organisational issues. This program draws on the extension and ongoing programs that have been running for some years in the UK and in Australia.

The work is highly experiential, practical, experimental and improvisational. Naturally what we work on in each module will be drawn from what’s happening in the group and the interests of the participants. Themes include, the focus of our current thinking, Moments of Leadership, and contact at the edge, spontaneity, creative adjustment and improvisation.

See below for more information on the possible content of each module.

Program format

Our usual format is three residential modules, each about four months apart. However, depending on the location and participant preferences, the program could be offered as two 4-day workshops.

Each group is limited to a maximum of eight people.

We ask all participants to commit to attending all workshops and pay the fee for the whole program. Fees for the whole program (inclusive of GST) are Personal rate: $2,970, Corporate rate: $4,950 (plus accommodation costs).

We rely on each participant to determine their applicable rate. (As always, we invite anyone with a limited training budget to talk to us about rates and payment options.)

Accommodation costs will be separate and paid directly by participants. We generally work in venues with reasonably priced accommodation.

Module Outlines

People who have worked with us in the past know that our approach is to work with the interests of the group and with what emerges as we work together. Of course, much of this will depend on what we’ve worked on together previously and the current issues for participants. Having said that we can say what could be covered, given our experience from other programs.
